Arena Futures explores the power of connection at BloomsYard

Arena Futures’ latest in-person event took place on Thursday 19 March at BloomsYard, bringing together rising talent and industry leaders for an afternoon of networking, insight-sharing and professional growth across hospitality and foodservice.

Part of Arena’s Networking Navigator Programme, delivered in partnership with William Murray PR & Marketing and Performance Works International, the event is designed to provide practical tools, build confidence and support emerging professionals in forming connections that drive both commercial value and long-term career development.

Guests were welcomed to BloomsYard for an afternoon of conversation and connection.

Building a brand through passion and perseverance

The event opened with an interview with Bharti Radix, Founder of BloomsYard, who shared the story behind building the business from a lockdown passion project into a growing multi-site operation.

Bharti spoke candidly about launching during Covid, navigating early operational challenges and backing herself at a time of uncertainty. Drawing on her background in fast-growth hospitality businesses, she reflected on the realities of building something from scratch, where resilience, adaptability and pace are essential.

Inclusive leadership in action

A key theme of the conversation was Bharti’s inclusive leadership philosophy and how this shapes the culture of BloomsYard. She spoke about creating an environment where people feel heard, valued and part of the wider journey of the business.

From open communication channels to celebrating team wins and encouraging feedback, Bharti highlighted how culture is built through consistent, everyday actions. Listening to both team members and customers has played a critical role in shaping the offer, from menu development to the overall experience.

Networking as a practical skill

Turning to networking, Bharti shared practical advice for those earlier in their careers. Her message was simple: networking starts with putting yourself forward, whether that is introducing yourself, starting a conversation or following up after an event.

She encouraged attendees to approach networking with intention and consistency, reinforcing that strong connections are built over time. Importantly, she highlighted the commercial value of these relationships, with opportunities, collaborations and partnerships often stemming from connections made much earlier in a career.

Leadership, confidence and career growth

Following the interview, Polly Lamy, Director of Innovation at Elior UK, and Shereen Ritchie, Group CEO of Kuvi Hospitality were welcomed to join Bharit for a panel discussion chaired by Fiona Hamilton, Director of Strategic Growth at William Murray PR & Marketing.

The lively panel shared honest reflections on their career journeys, highlighting the role connections, mentorship and experience have played in shaping their progression. Across the discussion, there was strong consensus that networking is essential for career development in hospitality.

Authenticity emerged as a defining theme. Shereen encouraged attendees to embrace who they are, rather than trying to fit a mould, while Polly highlighted the importance of understanding your strengths and building a leadership style that feels natural.

The panel reinforced that career growth is rarely linear. Instead, it is shaped through opportunity, relationships and the willingness to put yourself forward. Confidence builds over time, and often comes from simply showing up, taking part and gaining experience.

Alongside this, the session offered practical takeaways, from how to approach and exit conversations, to the importance of preparation, follow-up and being intentional about who you connect with. Attendees were also encouraged to think about their personal brand, identifying their strengths and communicating them clearly as they progress in their careers.

Innovation, opportunity and the future of hospitality

The panel also reflected on the wider hospitality landscape, acknowledging current challenges while highlighting the opportunities available to those who remain focused, adaptable and best in class.

From the role of collaboration in driving innovation to the importance of strong supplier relationships, the discussion reinforced that progress in hospitality is driven by people, ideas and partnerships.

A platform for future talent

The event captured the essence of Arena Futures, creating a space for rising professionals to connect, develop and grow. Designed to support early-career talent as well as those looking to build stronger industry connections, the session reinforced the value of investing time in networking and professional development.

From Bharti Radix’s honest account of building BloomsYard to the panel’s practical advice and shared experiences, the afternoon delivered both inspiration and actionable insight for those shaping their careers in hospitality.

A huge thank you goes to Bharti Radix, Polly Lamy and Shereen Ritchie for sharing their time and insights.
