NEW EVENT: ‘Solutions to the Staffing Crisis – A Different View’ - 12-4pm, Tuesday 9 November 2021

By Berenice, Monday 4 October 2021

Join us at the Brigade Bar + Kitchen, London Bridge, for a fantastic panel discussion, hosted by Simon Boyle, Founder, Beyond Food Foundation and The Brigade Bar + Kitchen, and featuring industry leaders including Ronan Harte, CEO, BaxterStorey, to discuss the current labour shortages affecting the industry, how companies are currently tackling the crisis and how working with charities such as Beyond Food could also be a potential solution.

In the UK, the foodservice and hospitality sector and its supply chain are experiencing rising labour shortages with job vacancies at their highest levels since records began.  According to CGA’s latest Business Confidence Survey, one in six (16%) hospitality jobs currently lie vacant with 96% of business leaders now envisaging shortages in either front or back of house roles.  This is placing huge pressure on the sector with shortages covering not only the full breadth of hospitality but also the supply chain.

On Tuesday 9 November 2021 Arena is excited to host a brand new event. ‘Solutions to the Staffing Crisis – A Different View’ features a fantastic panel discussion with industry leaders, including Ronan Harte, CEO, BaxterStorey, discussing the current labour shortages affecting the industry, how companies are currently tackling the crisis and how working with charities such as Beyond Food could also be a potential solution.  The panel discussion will be hosted by social entrepreneur and award-winning chef and author Simon Boyle, Founder, The Beyond Food Foundation and The Brigade Bar + Kitchen.

In addition to the panel discussion, the event also includes:

  • A drinks reception and three-course lunch with wine, cooked and served by the restaurants’ chefs and front-of-house team alongside Beyond Food’s apprentices
  • A keynote address from Simon Boyle discussing how volunteering in Sri Lanka in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 compelled him to do more for his own community, providing training and support to people who have been impacted by homelessness, mental health, addiction or a criminal record.
  • An inspirational speech from one of Beyond Food’s apprentices discussing how Beyond Food’s training programme, based around cooking and serving food, has enabled them to get into fulfilling and meaningful employment within the industry, thus breaking their cycle of homelessness, unemployment and poverty.
