Sysco confirms acquisition of Brakes Group

By Berenice, Tuesday 23 February 2016

Yesterday, news broke that Brakes Group has been bought by the US foodservice operator Sysco in a £2.2bn ($3.1bn) deal. The acquisition, which expands Sysco’s presence in the UK and Ireland and further into Europe, is expected to complete by July of this year. On the evening of Monday 4 April 2016, Brakes Group’s chief executive Ken McMeikan, who will stay at the helm of the business operating as a standalone company within Sysco, will address foodservice and hospitality industry colleagues at the Arena Savoy Lecture. With these latest developments, his speech is definitely one not to be missed!

More about Brakes Group

Brakes Group is the foodservice market leader in the UK and the second largest in both France and Sweden. From locally-sourced to globally-sourced, and from specialist culinary ingredients to fully-prepared meals, Brakes Group delivers more than one and a half million boxes of food to over 200,000 customer sites every day. In 2015, half of these sites were in the UK and Ireland.

Ken McMeikan has been Group Chief Executive of the foodservice giant for the past three years and inspired a period of significant transformation and investment: sales have increased by over £0.5bn; operations have expanded from four to six countries; new markets and sectors have been unlocked; the employee base has increased by 50%; the joint venture with Fresh Direct was created, accelerating growth in the fastest growing part of the market.

Join us at the Savoy Lecture 2016 to gain an insight into the strategy and values that have realised this success and secured Brakes Group place at the head of the wholesale sector.
